How to Get More Candid Memories of Yourself, Friends & Family!

It's time to start focusing more on capturing your family and friends in more candid moments. Not only will you remember them better for who they were and what they were like then, but they will also most likely start returning the favor and you'll have more memories of yourself growing up! Lately I've realized that when people pull out their phone to take a picture of someone, it's only because the person asked them to and poses with a friend or on their own smiling at the camera. I don't think there is anything wrong with that at all. It's great! But we miss all the moments in between. We miss documenting the overall scenario of who, what, when, where, and why to remember that day/evening better. We miss capturing the personality and essence of who that person/people is/are.

Try this. Next time you are out with friends or family somewhere, take 5 minutes to just capture some snapshots (they don't have to be perfect or fantastic looking - being in focus is enough!) of what is genuinely happening in front of you. You may get some looks, since people aren't used to getting caught of guard and will want to automatically smile at the camera, but just say "just keep doing what you were doing! Don't worry I'm just trying something out". Make sure to send some of the pictures to them, and they will be soo grateful!! Once you start doing this on the regular, they will say "let me get you in some pictures!" and then you'll be able to have natural memories of yourself among your family and friends too! :)

Don't let life just pass you by. Document it!

Below is an example of how I like to capture memories for my friends. Some of my closest friends and I embarked on a winter hike. Good thing it was sunny!!
