Camp Eden Woods Wedding in Ontario | Amy + Rory
Today, I'm beyond excited to take you on a journey through this Camp Eden Woods wedding in Ontario that Amy + Rory got to experience with a wildly enchanting twist! As a Haliburton documentary wedding photographer, I live for days like this where every moment feels authentic and raw. If you've been asking yourself, "Why choose a documentary-style wedding photographer in Haliburton?" this wedding is your perfect answer!
Amy, who is one of my longtime students (and a talented wedding photographer herself!), got married at the most magical camp up north. From the moment I arrived at Camp Eden Woods, the atmosphere was PURE laid-back camp bliss. Guests laughing on the dock, kids splashing in the water, friends and family roaming the grounds, and everyone pitching in to set up the big day. As a Muskoka wedding photographer dedicated to storytelling, I absolutely loved capturing all the little scenes that Amy + Rory might have otherwise missed, but now, they’ll have memories of what their favorite people were up to while the anticipation built!
Also, I love how creative they were with some solutions! With spotty cell service, Amy and Rory made the day extra playful by coordinating their plans using walkie-talkies (how fun is that?!). And I have to say, I was OBSESSED when Amy made time for a first look with her adorable dog, Grace. Then, as Amy dressed with her mom, a heartfelt first look with her dad had me misty-eyed behind the camera. This is exactly the kind of unposed, candid wedding photography I strive to capture.
When I dropped in to see Rory getting ready, it was all easy energy. Parents popping by, quiet moments before the fun, everyone just being their natural selves. Finding the right wedding photographers in Ontario means finding someone who can capture that genuine energy, and for those wondering, "What makes a good documentary wedding photographer?", it’s all about being invisible enough to let those natural moments unfold.
For their first look, Amy’s dad drove her over, swaddled in her childhood dinosaur sheet (yes, a DINOSAUR sheet! 🦕). When Amy + Rory finally locked eyes, it was total joy and heartfelt emotion. We roamed the meadow for dreamy portraits and made sure Grace got in on the action. Then something so cute happened: the Camp Eden Woods ice cream stand opened for 10 minutes and the kids (okay, and the adults!) ran for cones. Such a fun, summery pause before the “I do’s.”
Then it came time for the ceremony and for Amy to walk closer to it without being seen! Cue walking over, hidden behind her childhood dinosaur sheet haha! I swear, it was one of the most hilariously unique and sentimental wedding entrances I’ve ever photographed. The vows took place on the sandy beach, framed by sparkling water and lush, tree-covered hills. As one of the wedding photographers in Muskoka who loves the natural beauty of the region, I couldn't get enough of this setting! Amy + Rory surprised everyone by having their friend step up as officiant! Dried petals filled the air as they became newlyweds, followed by endless hugs, pink tequila toasts, and a relaxed, open cocktail hour that stretched with laughter and meaningful conversation.
Their first dance happened outdoors on the wooden deck draped in string lights. Soon after heading inside for dinner, the skies decided to pour rain (perfect timing) and made for some fun and spontaneous, splashy rain dancing for anyone brave enough! Whether you are looking for wedding photographers in Southern Ontario or a destination wedding photographer in Ontario, I am here to document your day exactly as it feels. The party carried on indoors, fueled by an epic dancefloor, spontaneous costumes (yes, someone in an inside-joke purple costume!), and joy that just did NOT let up.
Amy + Rory’s wedding at Camp Eden Woods was JOYOUS, LAID-BACK, SENTIMENTAL, and absolutely UNFORGETTABLE. I can’t thank them enough for letting me float along for their heartfelt, perfectly personalized celebration. I’m so grateful that these photos will let them relive every laugh, every teary smile, and every wild, beautiful hug. Again and again!
With love + gratitude,
Sara
